Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher resolves to find a way to stop the Supes from eradicating humanity in the trailer of The Boys Season 4, dropped by streaming platform Prime Video on Saturday.

The two-minute-48-second-long video begins with Urban’s Butcher revealing to Hughie (Jack Quaid), Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and the rest of the Boys that his days are numbered, citing his weak heart as the reason. The rest of the team are fed up with Butcher, who has lost Becca’s son to Homelander (played by Antony Starr) and his job as The Boys’ leader. With the stakes higher than ever, Butcher is determined to release a lethal virus targeting the Supe community in cahoots with a new character portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Over at Vought Headquarters, Homelander exploits claims of patriotism to transform his band of “beloved celebrities” into “wrathful gods”, who will pit themselves against protesting humans, including new members of The Seven, Firecracker (Valorie Curry) and Sister Sage (Susan Heyward). "We'll have to do some terrible things...Show me a little wrath," orders Homelander, causing the ambience to go bloody and berserk.

Jarring visuals of blood splattering on faces and walls, tentacles emerging from mouths, electric saws severing limbs and a needle extracting fluids from a festering leg dominate the trailer. We also see Butcher facing off against an armoured antagonist, while Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) goes on to declare a ‘biblical war’.

“If we're ever going to win against monsters, we need to start acting like humans,” warns a voiceover as a herd of air-borne man-eating sheep wreaks havoc on Butcher and his gang.

Based on the eponymous comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit and Cameron Crovetti. Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are also set to join the cast of the upcoming instalment.

The fourth season of the superhero series will premiere on Prime Video on June 13.
