Actor LaKeith Stanfield’s fake messiah finds a deeper connection with faith in the trailer of Jeymes Samuel’s upcoming epic biblical comedy drama The Book of Clarence.
The two-minute-six-second-long trailer takes us to AD 33, introducing Stanfield’s Clarence, a fictional character in Jerusalem who poses as a messiah after being intrigued by Jesus Christ’s influence over locals. Over time, however, he finds a deeper connection with faith.
The trailer introduces biblical figures like Jesus, the 12 apostles, John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene.
On Wednesday, British singer-director Jeymes Samuel, known on stage as The Bullitts, shared the trailer on Instagram. “It’s time… The trailer for The Book of Clarence. Witness a bold new vision of a timeless story. #TheBookofClarence. Exclusively in movie theaters 2024,” he wrote in the caption.
The Book of Clarence, produced by American rapper Jay-Z, also stars James McAvoy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Omar Sy in key roles. It is slated to release in 2024.
