The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences paid a tribute to comic book writer Stan Lee on his 101st birth anniversary through a video montage of his cameo appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Friday.

“The one, the only...Stan the Man,” wrote the organisation alongside the reel on Instagram

The video begins with Stan Lee’s cameo in Spider-Man 3. Though his dialogue, “You know, I guess there is one person who can make a difference,” was meant for Peter Parker in the film, here it symbolically applies to Lee himself. His iconic creations revolutionised the universe of superhero comics.

Together with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, Lee created unforgettable superheroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, the Scarlet Witch and Black Widow.

After retiring from Marvel Comics in the 1990s, Lee continued to serve as a prominent representative for the company in MCU films. He regularly appeared in cameo roles in movies and TV series, including award-winning films like Iron Man 3, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok and Ant-Man.

His significant contribution to Marvel Comics earned him the title of Executive Producer in almost every Marvel-based film ever made.

The reel shared by the Academy collates all such appearances made by Stan Lee over the years, ending with his posthumous appearance in Avengers: Endgame (2019)
