A moment from Jhoome jo Pathaan

Arijit Singh’s extraordinary voice can transform any song into a chartbuster. While he is basking in the success of his latest release, Heeriye, I would like to pick Jhoome jo Pathaan from Pathaan and Phir aur kya chahiye from Zara Hatke Zara Bachke as my top favourites of his in 2023. Featuring the powerhouses of talent Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, Jhoome jo Pathaan is a brilliant blend of Arabic fusion music and energetic lyrics. The song is foot-tapping and groovy, making it one of the biggest party hits of the year. Picturised on Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan, Phir kya chahiye defines that all other treasures of the world are meaningless in comparison to the one we love. For the last couple of weeks, I have been hooked to Tum kya mile (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani) and I am hearing it on a loop. I also love hearing Phir aur kya chahiye (Zara Hatke Zara Bachke), it’s one of my favourites actually. Tusshalii Roy

My favourite song by Arijit Singh this year so far is Jhoome jo Pathaan. His versatile voice was apt for this power-packed song that tempts me to groove and sing aloud at the top of my voice. Ishani Sen

My fondest Arijit Singh song of 2023 is Heeriye, a duet he sang with Jasleen Royal. I chanced upon this melodious romantic number one long windy night on my terrace when it felt like the song was dropped only for me from the skies. Arijit Singh’s soulful performance in Heeriye brings a gush of profound emotions to a lover’s heart. The dreamy music video, featuring Jasleen with Dulquer Salmaan, is a bewitching rendition of the popular tragic love story of Heer Ranjha. Camellia Paul

My favourite Arijit Singh song in 2023 so far is Pasoori nu from the film Satyaprem Ki Katha. Though no remake can beat the elegance and the ingenuity of the original version wonderfully sung by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill, Arijit’s soothing voice has added a different dimension of energy and vivacity to this song. Another song I love is What jhumka? from the recently released movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. With this pulsating rendition, Arijit has once again proved that his voice can do magic in foot-tapping numbers as effortlessly as in soulful melodies. This song has now become the go-to song for wedding soirees or any other kind of dance party. Sikrity Ghosh

Phir aur kya chahiye from Zara Hatke Zara Bachke is the ultimate romantic song of 2023. Arijit Singh’s magical voice and Vicky Kaushal’s performance makes this song more beautiful. Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics knit a complete story of a dream home of a romantic couple and their imaginary world within that house. Sarbani Banerjee

I would like to pick Tum kya mile from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani which gives a feel of ‘90s music and the underrated song Le aaunga from Satyaprem Ki Katha. I am sure everyone can listen to these two songs continuously on a loop while on a bus/train journey or during a break from work! Tanmoy Chakraborty

My favourite track of Arijit Singh’s for 2023 is Jhoome jo Pathaan. Yes, even though it is a duet with Sukriti Kakkar. Arijit, prodigiously gifted though he is, is known (and celebrated) more for his soul-stirring tracks, whether they convey gut-wrenching brokenness or romance on cloud nine. However, I feel that there is something irresistibly, awesomely sexy when Arijit nails a fun-filled, beat driven number (think Dilliwaali girlfriend back in 2013). And this particular one by Vishal-Shekhar (who are anyway pros when it comes to pulsating dance hits) has given Singh ample scope to soak in and run with it. And you bet he has. Yet again. Krishna Kumar

Till now, it has to be Phir aur kya chahiye. Arijit’s voice as usual has done justice to this romantic number. The song’s soothing lyrics and Arijit’s voice exude romantic vibes and make you feel calm at the same time. Special mention must be made of the very recent Heeriye which is doing the rounds and is on a loop for many. Etisha Banerjee

My favourite Arijit Singh song in 2023 so far is Pasoori nu from the film Satyaprem Ki Katha. Though no remake can beat the elegance and the ingenuity of the original version wonderfully sung by Ali Sethi and I really loved the mesmerising song Chaleya from Jawan. Shah Rukh Khan’s chemistry with the beautiful Nayanthara and her costumes and dance moves have added to the appeal of this song. Anirudh Ravichander’s music has created a magical experience with a catchy tune, relatable lyrics and the captivating voices of Shilpa Rao and Arijit Singh. Undoubtedly, Arijit’s soulful melody and SRK’s charisma make a blockbuster combination. Sohini Raychaudhuri

My favourite song by Arijit Singh in 2023 is Tere pyaar mein (Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar). The song brings the feeling of romance back to Bollywood after a long time. Its freshness and vibrance, combined with its lively quality, keep us hooked to its every beat. This song oozes freshness and romance. It is composed by Pritam, sung by none other than the king of romantic melodies Arijit Singh along with Nikhita Gandhi, and has lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. With Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s presence, the song looks like a beautiful combination of love and liveliness that strikes the right chord. Roshni Ojha

My favourite Arijit Singh song of 2023 till now will be Mera aasman jal gaya from Ponniyin Selvan: II, a euphonious number which successfully enchants the listener to travel back to the era presented in the movie, thanks to Arijit’s versatile voice. Using string sections in certain parts of the song is like a chef’s kiss added by A.R. Rahman along with the poignant lyrics penned by Gulzar himself. Other mentions are Phir aur kya chahiye from Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Bhide featuring Divine, the energetic theme song of Durand Cup 2023 and Heeriye, composed and sung by Arijit Singh and Jasleen Royal. Sayan Dutta

My two favourite songs of Arijit Singh in 2023 are O bedardeya (Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar) and Phir aur kya chahiye (Zara Hatke Zara Bachke). Though I have not watched the movies, I can certainly vibe with them and get that energy. For some reason, I have always been a fan of songs of heartbreak and I feel that sad endings (even though I hate them) have their own beauty. Phir aur kya chahiye is a song my friends made me listen to and I liked it immediately. Aratrika Das
