Vijay’s 2007 blockbuster Pokkiri will re-release in theatres on June 21, a day ahead of the actor’s 50th birthday, the makers announced, sharing a new teaser of the Prabhu Deva-helmed crime drama on Sunday.
“Revisit the cult blockbuster #Pokkiri in theaters again from this Jun 21 #PokkiriTeaser Streaming Now #PokkiriFromJune21,” the official handle of production banner Kanakarathna Movies wrote on X.
Pokkiri, a remake of Mahesh Babu’s 2006 Telugu film Pokiri, stars Asin as the female lead. Prakash Raj, Nassar, Mukesh Tiwari, Vadivelu, Sriman and Napoleon play key roles in the movie.
The film revolves around Thamizh (Vijay), a thug for hire, who is recruited by international don Ali Bhai (Prakash Raj) to penetrate his rival Narasimhan’s (Anandraj) gang. The plot thickens with twists and turns, revealing that Thamizh may not be who he claims.
With music by Mani Sharma and cinematography by Nirav Shah, Pokkiri hit the theatres on January 12, 2007. It received rave reviews and became a massive hit, marking a significant milestone in Vijay’s career.
Earlier this year, Vijay’s 2004 film Ghilli was re-released to an overwhelming response. In addition to Pokkiri, Vijay’s 2012 blockbuster Thuppakki, directed by AR Murugadoss, will also be re-released on June 21.
