Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has been roped in for the next film in Tom Cruise’s spy action franchise Mission Impossible.
The Emmy-winning actress has been cast for the upcoming eighth film of the series titled Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, which will arrive in theatres next summer.
Writer-director Christoper McQuarrie, who will helm both the Dead Reckoning films, took to Instagram on Friday late night to welcome Waddington to the action sequel by sharing an image of the actress. “And Hannah Waddingham… #Godspeed#DeadReckoning,” he wrote.
In Dead Reckoning Part One, which is scheduled for a June 14 release, Tom Cruise’s daredevil IMF agent Ethan Hunt is joined by franchise regulars Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benjji Dunn and Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa Faust.
Waddingham, who broke out as the vengeful but complicated football club owner Rebecca Welton on Apple TV+’s sports comedy series Ted Lasso, joins the Mission: Impossible family as a newcomer.
The 48-year-old actress won an Emmy in 2021 for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. Season 3 of Ted Lasso will premiere on Apple TV+ on March 15. She will also be seen as the host of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place in Liverpool between May 9 and 13.
