Team Shaktirupenn recently got together for the trailer launch of the new KLIKK series at The Black Cat on Park Street. Shaktirupenn is set in Sutia, a small village three hours away from Calcutta. In the three years from 1999 to 2001, a reign of terror had descended upon this village. One after another, heinous crimes got perpetrated with alacrity.

“I am honoured and grateful for the public response after the trailer launch. I understand that people, especially women, want to protest against heinous atrocities inflicted on them, but often they don’t find the voice or have the requisite courage. But I firmly believe, going forward, that if at least one lone voice of protest gets heard after seeing this series, our hard work will be validated,” said Amlan Majumder, writer-actor-producer of Shaktirupenn.

The two central characters of this story are Damayanti and Rishan. Rishan owns a small boutique in Bnoichi village and Damayanti is the designer of this boutique. All the woven fabrics of this boutique arrive from Anadibabu’s looms in Fulia. On a particular fateful night, all of a sudden, a girl comes rushing, right in front of their car. The next day, they get to know the girl was murdered in cold blood. Unable to come to terms with this despicable act, Damayanti roars in protest. Rishan gets cautious and asks her to suppress everything. But Damayanti can’t accept this untimely demise of an innocent girl. And thus begins her fight, for the oppressed victim.

“We have received nothing but love and appreciation for our project, from the audience. We are extremely grateful. The subject is very relevant to our contemporary society and portrays an important and inspiring message. Thanks to Amlan Majumdar for writing and curating such a robust voice of resilience through Shaktirupenn,” said director Surajit (Saheb) Mukherjee.

Actor Rezwan makes his web debut with Shaktirupenn. “While one was aware of the locations, the scenes and everything that went into them, seeing it coming together finally in such a hard-hitting trailer, gave me goosebumps. The BGM was also very impactful. We have all worked really hard as a family, against all odds, for this series. We now have our fingers crossed before the release. This series has a social message that portrays a narrative like a wake-up call. Stories that might be unfolding around us, which we may not be aware of, or knowingly ignore while silently moving on with our lives. My character chooses the safer pathway to suppress all facts when confronted in court. I usually choose characters to play based on believable ideas. As an actor, I also have a responsibility to portray this kind of message of social justice to people,” said Rezwan.

Basabdatta Chatterjee felt that her character Damayanti Chatterjee has taught her to think about the entire premise of protest in a new way. “It will be one of my most cherished on-screen characters created. Damayanti is an author-backed role, which spells out defiance. Her turmoil and resilience shine through in the trailer. Voices of protest often get lost in the quagmire of societal oppression. That’s when a devi like Shaktirupenn is born, to slay all that is evil. After sharing the trailer, I’m getting a lot of congratulatory messages. It has created very strong positive vibes about the content. Industry friends, colleagues and family are all eagerly waiting in anticipation to see the series. I would be doing more work on the web space, but this is my debut endeavour in the Bengali web horizon,” said Basabdatta.

“Singer Pota has sung a very soulful number, which resonates very well with the soul of the series. We hold women’s dignity and their safety as a high priority in everything we do. The two teaser drops paved the way for a hard-hitting audience response. We’ll be truly happy if this succeeds in creating positive support for the well-being and safety of women at large,” said Niraj Tantiya, director, KLIKK.
