Team O Abhagi recently got together to celebrate the success of the film — which has completed 50 days in the theatres — with friends and colleagues from the film industry at Bass & Barrel, Peerless Hotel. Based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s story Abhagir Swargo, the film, directed by Anirban Chakraborty, stars Rafiath Rashid Mithila, Subrat Dutta, Debjani Chatterjee, Ishan Mazumder, Sayan Ghosh, and Sourav Halder.

The story revolves around a low-caste woman’s desire to travel to heaven after death in a chariot, dressed in her marital fineries. "Her desire for the same is intensified when she watches the zamindar’s wife’s cremation. The story has several layers, just as casteism is addressed so is patriarchy," wrote filmmaker Sudeshna Roy in the t2 review.

"It was truly an exhilarating experience at the celebration party. We feel proud and privileged that O Abhagi has already won a few awards. It has been nominated in various national and international film festivals also. But to me, the highest accolade is the audience's blessings which this film has earned. As the director, I would like to thank my producer Dr Prabir Bhaumik for giving me the leeway and a lot of liberty for mounting this film the way I wanted to. I’m so happy that my textual adaptation of Abhagir Swargo has found such widespread adulation and acceptance in cinematic form. We missed Mithila at the celebration as she was travelling; her performance has been top-notch, and she won the best actress award at the 14th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival in New Delhi," said Anirban.

"Our team led by director Anirban Chakraborty has done a very commendable job in mounting this film. We faced numerous challenges in filming this story across rural Bengal and Jharkhand in extreme climatic conditions. The music helmed by Moushumi Chatterjee is uniquely different and has been applauded for its raw vitality. My friends and people from the industry have responded in a truly heart-touching way. As the film makes it journey through several national and international festivals, notching up nominations and wins, as a producer I am honoured with the audience response and jury verdicts," said producer Dr Prabir Bhaumik.

The storyline of the film is about an unparalleled battle. “So the poster had to reflect Abhagi as a warrior. She is different, she has her own beliefs and ethics. So she has to stand alone. The fire itself symbolises purity and strength. So it is an essential element or part of this poster,” said the director.
