American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has curated five new playlists on Apple Music based on the five stages of heartbreak — denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance — ahead of the April 19 release of her 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department.
“A playlist for each stage of your heartbreak from the chairman of ‘THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT’ @taylorswift13,” Apple Music wrote on X (formerly Twitter) alongside the names and monochrome icons of the playlists on the music streaming platform.
The playlists include songs from Swift’s previous albums and are named after the taglines of the deluxe editions of her upcoming album. But the fifth one, corresponding to the acceptance stage, is named after the song I Can Do It With a Broken Heart from the upcoming 17-track album.
The first stage of heartbreak, denial, is expressed through a playlist titled I Love You, It’s Ruining My Life. It includes songs like Lavender Haze, Style (Taylor’s version), Lover, Cruel Summer, Snow on the Beach, Willow, Wildest Dreams, Betty and Treacherous.
Depression is dealt with in the Old Habits Die Screaming playlist, which features songs like Champagne Problems, Forever Winter (Taylor's Version), Dear Reader and Bigger Than the Whole Sky. She finally comes to the acceptance stage of a heartbreak with the I Can Do It With a Broken Heart playlist featuring songs like You’re On Your Own and Kid and Long Story Short.
The Blank Space singer had earlier announced the release of her new album in her acceptance speech at the 66th Grammy Awards after receiving the golden gramophone for best pop vocal album for her 2023 album Midnights.
Swift, whose The Eras Tour has been extended till November this year with new locations across the US and Canada, recently released a concert film directed by Sam Wrench. She also emerged as The Artist of the Year at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards last year.
