Taylor Swift’s new studio album The Tortured Poets Department will come out on April 19, the singer-songwriter announced in her acceptance speech after receiving the Grammy for best pop vocal album for Midnights on Monday.
“I want to thank you guys by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out April 19. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m gonna go and post the cover,” the 34-year-old singer said at the 66th Grammy awards ceremony at Los Angeles’s Crypto.com Arena.
Shortly after the live announcement on stage, Swift took to Instagram and shared the cover of the album. “All’s fair in love and poetry... New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Out April 19 🤍,” she captioned her post.
The monochrome cover picture, clicked by fine art photographer Beth Garrabrant, features a woman in a black top and matching shorts. The title of the album appears on top in bold letters.
Swift’s post is also accompanied by a verse, probably belonging to one of the songs from the upcoming album. “And so I enter into evidence/My tarnished coat of arms/My muses, acquired like bruises/My talismans and charms/ The tick, tick, tick, of love bombs/ My veins of pitch black ink,” the lyrics read.
The Lover singer signs off by writing, “All’s fair in love and poetry…Sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department.”
Swift, whose The Eras Tour has been extended till November this year with new locations across the US and Canada, recently released a concert film directed by Sam Wrench. She also emerged as The Artist of the Year at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards last year.
