Tabu makes a brief appearance as Sister Francesca in the official trailer for HBO’s Dune: Prophecy, dropped by the makers on Thursday. Set to debut on November 17, the series is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
Set 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert’s 1965 classic Dune, Dune: Prophecy dives deep into the origins of the all-female Bene Gesserit order. The show focuses on sisters Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams), who form the matriarchal religious group to protect their world from future threats.
“The prophecy begins. The new HBO Original Series #DuneProphecy premieres November 17 on Max,” the streamer wrote on social media alongside the two-minute-38-second long trailer.
In the trailer, the Bene Gesserit, a sect known for their political manipulation, are shown in their early stages. While the Harkonnen name may be infamous for their control of the spice on the desert planet Arrakis in the original Dune saga, this prequel series portrays a different time for the family, as they attempt to regain power after suffering defeat in a galactic war.
According to the novel, Tabu’s character Sister Francesa was a former lover of Emperor Javicco Corrino and a member of the Bene Gesserit. Apart from Tabu’s fleeting glimpses, the trailer also gives viewers a peek of the sandworms from the Dune universe.
Led by Watson and Williams, the six-episode series boasts a star-studded cast that includes Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Jodhi May, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin and Jihae.
Dune: Prophecy will stream on JioCinema in India.
