Syeraa, the Rs 270-crore multilingual film, is actor Ram Charan’s gift to his father Chiranjeevi, the lead actor.
Director Surendra Reddy is excited about his debut release on October 2 in Hindi and five other languages.
Syeraa, produced by Ram Charan, is the biopic on the first civil rebellion mounted by Narsimha Reddy against the British, about 10 years before the Sepoy Mutiny. Reddy said: “It’s a gift from him to his father Chiranjeevi.”
He added: “Not many know about Narsimha Reddy who fought and rebelled his way to freedom.”
Working with legendary actors like Chiranjeevi and Amitabh Bachchan has been an incredible experience, the filmmaker said. “It’s one of my dream projects and they all encouraged me a lot. I am a next generation director yet they were so humble and dedicated on the sets.
“I didn’t have to tell them anything yet they treated me like the captain of the ship. Amitabh Bachchan plays a vedic guru in the film who runs a gurukul in the 1800s. This is the first time I am working with them but he didn’t hesitate a moment to say yes.
“I got to learn a lot from them. Amitabh Bachchan is so dedicated and keeps asking whether he has done it properly.”
The war episodes of the film, Reddy said, were shot in Georgia for 150 days. “We needed good action co-coordinators and Levi and George Powell have shot the action scenes. We needed 250 horses at one go so we had to shoot there. Most of the action has been shot with only 25 per cent VFX,” he added.
Reddy, whose Telugu film Kick was remade in Hindi with Salman Khan in the lead, said he would love to work with “Bhai” someday. “I am a great fan. Right now I have not planned anything.”
