Sushmita Sen portrays transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant’s relentless fight for the recognition of the third gender in India in the teaser of JioCinema series Taali.

The 46-second-long teaser begins with Sushmita wearing a sari and adjusting her big bindi as she looks at herself in the mirror. We then see her being greeted by members of the transgender community. The clip also shows Sushmita’s Shreegauri confidently telling a lawyer that she’s born ready in reply to a question.

Sharing the teaser on Instagram, the former Miss Universe-turned-actress wrote, “Gaali se Taali tak ke safar ki yeh kahaani. Presenting the story of Shreegauri Sawant’s fight for India’s third gender. #TaaliOnJioCinema streaming free 15 Aug.”

Created by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar, the JioCinema series is produced by the creators under their GSEAMS Production in association with Afeefa Nadiadwala. National award-winning director Ravi Jadhav is helming the series, which has been written by Kshitij Patwardhan.

Taali will be streaming on JioCinema from August 15 onwards.
