Warner Bros. on Monday unveiled the official trailer for the documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, offering a glimpse into the late Hollywood actor’s journey from stardom as on-screen Superman to his battle following an incident that left him paralysed.
“The man you knew, the story you didn’t. Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story - Only in Theaters September 21 and September 25. Tickets Now Available #ChristopherReeveStory,” the official handle of the Superman movie franchise posted on X alongside the trailer.
The three-minute-36-second long trailer highlights poignant moments with Reeve’s family, including his children Matthew, Alexandra, and Will, as well as his late wife Dana, who succumbed to lung cancer in 2006. It also features appearances by close friends like Susan Sarandon and Glenn Close.
In 1995, Reeve’s life was irrevocably changed when he fell from a horse during an equestrian event, leaving him paralysed from the neck down. The trailer movingly captures Reeve’s reflections on the accident too.
As Reeve adjusted to his new reality, he became a tireless advocate for disability rights and spinal cord injury research, particularly through the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. He also actively campaigned for stem cell research legislation. Reeve passed away in 2004 at the age of 52, nine years after his injury, following a heart attack.
The upcoming documentary is directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui.
