Despite a massive drop in earnings on Friday amidst the Jawan storm at the box office, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 has emerged as the second-highest grossing Hindi film of all time, beating the collections of S.S. Rajamouli’s 2017 blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Hindi version).
Gadar 2 minted Rs 1 crore nett at the domestic box office on its fifth Friday, taking its total collection to Rs 511 crore nett. The Hindi version of Baahubali 2 had a lifetime collection of Rs 510.9 crore nett.
Released on August 11, Gadar 2 clashed with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 at the box office. While OMG 2 managed to perform well — it raked in Rs 151 crore nett in 29 days — Gadar 2 has outshone its competition, emerging as the fastest Hindi film to hit the Rs 500-crore milestone.
As of now, only Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (Rs 524 crore nett) has earnings higher than Gadar 2. However, with a reduced number of shows due to the Jawan onslaught, it is unlikely that the Anil Sharma directorial will be able to dislodge the Siddharth Anand-directed spy thriller from its position, predicts Box Office India.
Gadar 2, which also features Ameesha Patel, is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
