Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 has raked in a staggering Rs 524.75 crore in India, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan-led Pathaan’s lifetime collections to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
Pathaan had held the record with a lifetime business of Rs 524.53 crore in Hindi.
However, Gadar 2's moment of glory is likely to be brief as Shah Rukh Khan's latest release, Jawan, has been steadily climbing the box office charts. The Atlee-helmed actioner has managed to amass Rs 519.69 crore nett in Hindi in just 21 days and is expected to surpass Gadar 2’s collections today, according to Box Office India estimates.
Anil Sharma-helmed Gadar 2, which has taken the Indian box office by storm since its release on August 11, follows the story of Sunny Deol’s Tara Singh who embarks on a perilous journey to Pakistan to rescue his imprisoned son just before the outbreak of the India-Pakistan War of 1971.
The film also features Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, who reprise their roles from the original 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
