Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer Gadar 2 has breached the Rs 200-crore mark at the domestic box office, collecting a whopping Rs 56.5 crore nett on Independence Day, according to trade reports.
Gadar 2, which released on August 11, registered an opening of Rs 40.10 crore nett. The Anil Sharma-helmed action drama raked in Rs 43 crore nett on Saturday, followed by Rs 51.70 crore nett on Sunday. The movie maintained its momentum, experiencing a slight dip in collections on Monday (Rs 38.70 crore nett). With an additional Rs 56.5 crore nett on Tuesday, the total five-day collection of Gadar 2 now stands at Rs 230 crore nett.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi-starrer OMG 2 managed to collect Rs 18.5 crore nett on Tuesday, its highest daily earnings so far. The film is expected to cross the Rs 100-crore mark by the end of its first week in theatres.
OMG 2 registered an opening day collection of Rs 10.26 crore nett on August 11. The film earned Rs 15.3 crore nett and Rs 17.55 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The satirical drama, also starring Yami Gautam and Arun Govil in key roles, experienced a slight dip in earnings on Monday, collecting Rs 12 crore nett. However, the film went on to earn Rs 18.50 crore nett at the domestic box office on Independence Day. This brings OMG 2’s total earnings over the first five days to Rs 73.67 crore nett.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani inched closer to the Rs 140 crore mark at the domestic box office with a collection Rs 3.75 crore nett on Independence Day. The Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh-starrer romantic drama has earned Rs 137.43 crore nett in India in 19 days and grossed Rs 282 crore worldwide.
