Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 becomes the fastest Hindi film to cross the Rs 500-crore milestone at domestic box office

The Anil Sharma-helmed actioner has emerged as the third highest-grossing Hindi film of all time after Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Prabhas-starrer Baahubali 2 (Hindi version)

Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 has emerged as the fastest Hindi film to cross the Rs 500-crore mark at the domestic box office, beating Shah Rukh Khan’s latest blockbuster Pathaan by a decent margin, trade reports highlighted on Monday.

The Anil Sharma-helmed actioner hit the mark on its 24th day in theatres, beating Siddharth Anand-directed Pathaan, which achieved the feat in 28 days earlier this year.

S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 (Hindi version) is the only other Hindi film to have crossed the Rs 500-crore mark at the domestic box office. The Prabhas-starrer took 34 days to achieve the milestone.

Also starring Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in key roles, the action drama has collected Rs 501.12 crore nett at the box office so far, according to Box Office India. It has emerged as the third-highest grossing Hindi film of all time. Pathaan (Rs 524 crore nett) and Hindi dubbed version of Baahubali 2 (Rs 510 crore nett) occupy the top 2 positions at present.

Gadar 2 had a solid first week, minting Rs 284 crore nett in seven days. The film earned Rs 420 crore nett at the end of its second week in theatres. Despite slowing down at the box office thereafter, the Sunny Deol-led actioner ended its third week in theatres with a collection of Rs 483 crore nett. The film earned Rs 5.2 crore nett on its fourth Friday followed by Rs 13.47 crore nett over the fourth weekend.

Among other films that hit theatres recently, Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Dream Girl 2 crossed the Rs 80-crore mark at the domestic box office by raking in Rs 14.36 crore nett during the second weekend, Box Office India reported. The Raaj Shaandilyaa-helmed romantic comedy has minted Rs 86 crore nett since its release on August 25.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar-starrer OMG 2 earned Rs 2.2 crore nett on Sunday, taking the 24-day collection of the Amit Rai-helmed satirical comedy, also featuring Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles, to Rs 146.72 crore nett.
