J.P. Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border is getting a sequel, Sunny Deol, who played Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri in the war film, announced on Thursday alongside a teaser.
In the video, Deol proclaims, “Ek fauji apne 27 saal purane waade ko pura karne, aa raha hai phirse. India’s biggest war film, #Border2.”
Directed by Anurag Singh, the film will be produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The full cast for the film is yet to be announced.
J.P. Dutta wrote, produced and directed Border, which released on June 13, 1997. The movie, set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, depicts the events of the battle of Longewala. The ensemble cast of the film included Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, and Puneet Issar, with supporting roles played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Rakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and Sharbani Mukherjee.
The song Sandese Aate Hai, performed by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, became immensely popular after the release of the film.
