Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Stree 2 has crossed the lifetime collection of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal at the domestic box office, becoming the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in India after Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan.
After its fifth Monday in theatres, Stree 2’s total earnings at the domestic box office stood at Rs 583.35 crore nett against Animal’s lifetime collection of Rs 553.87 crore nett, according to industry data-tracking platform Sacnilk.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 is a sequel to the 2018 horror comedy Stree and also stars Aparshakti Khurrana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi. Animal, released in 2023, was directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starred Rashmika Mandanna opposite Ranbir.
Stree 2 kicked off its box office run on August 15, earning Rs 64.8 crore nett on its opening day. It earned Rs 307.8 crore nett during its first week, followed by Rs 145.8 crore nett in the second week. In its third week, the Amar Kaushik directorial added Rs 72.83 crore nett to its tally. In Week 4, Stree 2 earned Rs 37.6 crore nett.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan remains the highest-grossing Hindi film in India. As per a 2023 report, Jawan accumulated Rs 640.25 crore nett at the domestic box office.
Stree 2 clashed with the release of Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa, both of which failed to make a mark at the box office. While Mudassar Aziz’s comedy drama has minted Rs 44.25 crore nett so far, Nikkhil Advani’s action thriller managed to earn Rs 25.5 crore nett.
Meanwhile, Vijay-starrer The Greatest of All Time, which released in theatres on September 5, amassed Rs 178 crore nett in its extended first week.
Stree 2 continues the story based on a folk legend in a small town where an evil spirit named Stree abducts men at night during the festive season. Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar appeared in cameo roles in the film.
