Shraddha Kapoor now has more followers on Instagram than Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The development comes close on the heels of the roaring success of her latest horror comedy Stree 2, which has already collected over Rs 250 crore since its August 15 release.
On Wednesday, Shraddha had 91.4 million followers on the social media platform against Modi’s 91.3 million followers.
At the time this report was filed, Shraddha was the most-followed Indian actress on Instagram, surpassing Alia Bhatt (85.1 million followers), Katrina Kaif (80.4 million followers), and Deepika Padukone (79.8 million followers).
Shraddha is now the third most-followed Indian on Instagram after Virat Kohli (271 million followers) and Priyanka Chopra (91.8 million followers).
However, Modi still has a larger following on X (formerly Twitter). He has 101.2 million followers on the platform against Shraddha’s 14.2 million.
Shraddha’s latest film Stree 2, also starring Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi, is set in Madhya Pradesh's Chanderi and follows the story of a headless monster named Sirkata who kidnaps girls in the village.
The original 2018 film recounted how Shraddha’s character acquired the powers of Stree after tangling a chunk of the ghost’s braid with her own.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, the sequel also features Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee in key roles, with cameo appearances by Varun Dhawan, Akshay Kumar and Tamannaah Bhatia. Produced under the banner of Maddock Films, Stree 2 is backed by Dinesh Vijan and Jio Studios.
On the work front, Shraddha is expected to headline Vishal Furia’s upcoming film Naagin.
As of August 2024, the top 5 most-followed actresses on Instagram internationally are Selena Gomez (425 million followers), Kylie Jenner (398 million followers), Kim Kardashian (361 million followers), Ariana Grande (377 million followers) and Priyanka Chopra (91.8 million followers).
