Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Stree 2 stormed into the Rs 500-crore club on Sunday with a collection of Rs 48.75 crore on its third weekend in theatres, as per trade reports.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, the horror-comedy film now holds the record of highest third weekend collection by any film in India, surpassing S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 (Hindi version), which earned Rs 42.55 crore nett on its third weekend in 2017.
Stree 2 began its third week in theatres with a collection of Rs 9.25 crore nett on Friday, followed by Rs 17.40 crore nett on Saturday and Rs 22.10 crore nett on Sunday. After 18 days in theatres, Stree 2 has amassed Rs 502.35 crore nett in India.
If the momentum continues, Stree 2 is expected to surpass the lifetime domestic collections of Baahubali 2 (Rs 510 crore nett), Pathaan (Rs 524.5 crore nett) and Gadar 2 (Rs 525.7 crore nett) before setting its sights on Animal (Rs 550 crore nett) and Jawan (Rs 555 crore nett).
The fifth instalment in the Maddock Films’ supernatural comedy universe, Stree 2 also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana in key roles.
