Stree 2 emerges as the first Hindi film to breach Rs 600-crore mark at domestic box office

Starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, the Amar Kaushik-helmed horror comedy has amassed Rs 604.22 crore nett domestically so far

Stree 2 starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor has emerged as the first Hindi movie to cross the Rs 600-crore mark at the domestic box office. Amar Kaushik’s horror comedy has amassed Rs 604.22 crore nett so far, as per trade figures.

Last year, Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Jawan raked in Rs 582 crore nett from its Hindi version alone. It collected Rs 643 crore nett including earnings from its Tamil and Telugu-dubbed versions.

Jawan remains the highest-grossing Bollywood film at the all-India level. But considering only the Hindi-language version, Stree 2 has surpassed Atlee’s blockbuster to claim the top spot.

The fifth instalment in Maddock Films’ supernatural comedy universe, Stree 2 kicked off its box office run on August 15, earning Rs 64.8 crore nett on its opening day. The film earned Rs 307.8 crore nett during its first week, followed by Rs 145.8 crore nett in the second week.

In its third week, the Amar Kaushik directorial added Rs 72.83 crore nett to its kitty. In Week 4, Stree 2 went on to earn Rs 37.6 crore nett, followed by Rs 25.72 crore nett in the fifth week. In the sixth weekend, the film earned Rs 14.32 crore nett.

Also starring Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi, Stree 2 serves as the sequel to the 2018 hit Stree. It follows the adventure of Vicky (Rajkummar) and his friends as they face a new demon in Chanderi — Sarkata. The unnamed girl (Shraddha), who Vicky fell in love with in the original film, joins them in their mission.
