Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown is all set to star in fantasy drama Damsel, helmed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, streaming platform Netflix announced on Thursday, sharing a poster of the upcoming film.

“Entering the warrior era. Damsel coming to Netflix March 8,” the streaming giant captioned its post on Instagram.

The poster aptly captures the determination and fearlessness of Brown’s Elodie. Smeared with dirt, a sword-wielding Elodie looks ready for a fight in the poster.

Penned by Dan Mazeau, Damsel subverts a traditional fairy-tale story. Elodie does not get to spend her days with her prince charming in a bower of bliss. Instead, she is sacrificed by the royal family to a fire-breathing dragon. In the course of the film, the damsel overcomes her distress single-handedly, thereby emerging as a strong, empowered woman in her own right.

The trailer, dropped by Netflix in November last year, shows Elodie struggling to survive on her own in the monster’s lair.

Damsel is a modernized take on an old story, according to a statement issued by the makers on February 1. “Even if you don’t casually come across dragons in your day-to-day life, you’ll still recognise many of the hurdles Elodie faces throughout the story,” a press communique from Netflix read.

Also featuring Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, and Nick Robinson in key roles, the film is slated to premiere on Netflix on March 8.
