The fifth and final instalment of Netflix’s popular horror fiction series Stranger Things will premiere in 2025 with eight episodes, the streamer announced on Wednesday.

“In the fall of 1987 one last adventure begins. STRANGER THINGS 5 coming 2025,” the streamer wrote alongside a teaser dropped on November 6, the day when Noah Schnapp's character Will Byers disappeared from Hawkins, Indiana in the first season.

The eight episodes for the final season are titled The Crawl, The Vanishing of…, The Turnbow Trap, Sorcerer, Shock Jock, Escape from Camazotz, The Bridge and The Rightside Up.

Netflix also dropped behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets of the show. The first photo features Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp and Gaten Matarazzo sitting at a table inside their school cafeteria. Other pictures feature Wolfhard riding a bicycle with McLaughlin at night, and Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton having a fun time with Matarazzo inside a vintage car.

David Harbour, who plays cop Jim Hopper, also features in one of the photos with Winona Ryder. Creators of the show, The Duffer Brothers, appear in a monochrome picture.

In November last year, the makers teased the first scene of the upcoming season from the script. “Darkness. The sound of cold wind. Groaning trees. And… A child’s voice. Singing a familiar song,” the script reads.

Showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer previously told Netflix Tudum that they had written a 25-page document delving into the mythology of the Upside Down in the series. “The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5,” Duffer said.

The writers of the show started working on Season 5 on August 2, 2022, almost a month after Season 4, Volume 2 premiered on Netflix.
