It’s the beginning of the end for Stranger Things as its fifth and final season is halfway through filming, the makers announced on Monday, sharing a BTS video of the upcoming edition of the Netflix supernatural drama series.

“Take it all in, nerds…we’ve hit the halfway mark of filming the final season and wanted to give you all a look at what we’ve been up to,” they wrote on Instagram.

The video begins with a shot of Castle Byers, a makeshift fort made by Will (Noah Schnapp) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) in the forest near their house. “We’re about halfway through filming now, and it’s exciting,” a voiceover says in the clip. “So, I started when I was 10. Now, I’m 20 years old,” says Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the role of Eleven in the series.

The clip takes fans back to Hawkins High School as Finn Wolfhard’s Mike, Noah Schnapp’s Will, Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas, Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin and Sadie Sink’s Max plan their next move. “We’re just kind of savoring every single moment,” Sadie Sink says.

Jamie Campbell Bower, who played Vecna in the last season, teases his return in Season 5., “Season 4 was big. Season 5 definitely feels bigger,” he says.

Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux are set to join the cast in Stranger Things Season 5. The other returning cast members include Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalie Dyer, Maya Hawke and Joe Keery.

Showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer previously told Netflix Tudum that they had written a 25-page document delving into the mythology of the Upside Down in the series. “The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5,” Duffer said.

Duffer has been sharing BTS pictures of Stranger Things Season 5 on his Instagram handle. One of them shows Nancy Wheeler (Natalie Dyer) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) looking terrified in the back of Steve Harrington’s (Joe Keery) BMW.

In November last year, the makers teased the first scene of the upcoming season from the script. “Darkness. The sound of cold wind. Groaning trees. And… A child’s voice. Singing a familiar song,” the script reads.

The writers of the show started working on Season 5 on August 2, 2022, almost a month after Season 4, Volume 2 premiered on Netflix.
