Netflix is working on an animated spin-off to its record-breaking sci-fi show Stranger Things, animation production company Flying Bark has announced via Twitter.

“We’re beyond excited to share that Netflix has announced a series order for an animation spinoff of the Duffer Brothers’ Stranger Things, developed by the Flying Bark team and executive producer Eric Robles alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen on behalf of 21 Laps,” the production company’s tweet read.

Nearly all details about the yet-untitled show are being kept under wraps other than the fact that it was being developed by Eric Robles and Flying Bark Productions. Robles has previously created animated shows like Random! Cartoons, Fanboy & Chum Chum and Glitch Techs.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, Robles of Flying Bark and Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps are attached to the project as executive producers.

A statement from Netflix, as reported by the US-based entertainment magazine Variety, read, “We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling. We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”

Debuted in 2016, Stranger Things became Netflix’s most-watched English-language original series. The science-fiction drama series chronicles the tale of a group of teenagers battling unusual happenings in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. It was renewed for a fifth and final season in February 2022.

The ensemble cast of the Emmy-winning show includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Matthew Modine, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Dacre Montgomery, Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson and Brett Gelman.
