The trailer of a musical Star Trek episode, the first of its kind in the science fiction franchise’s 57-year history, has been dropped by Paramount+ for the second season of Strange New Worlds at San Diego Comic-Con on July 22.
The streamer also confirmed the news on Twitter, sharing the trailer of the musical episode titled Subspace Rhapsody . “Prepare for a @StarTrek episode like none other before it: "Subspace Rhapsody," a #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds musical!”, posted Star Trek’s official Twitter handle on the microblogging site.
In the one-minute-19-second-long trailer, the U.S.S. Enterprise gets zapped by a space anomaly, making the crew break into synchronised song-and-dance sequences.
Subspace Rhapsody will feature 10 original songs and a musical version of the main title of the series, with music and lyrics by Letters to Cleo fame Kay Hanley and Tom Polce of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
Created by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the 11th Star Trek series and a spin-off from Star Trek: Discovery. It stars Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong and Celia Rose Gooding.
The series follows Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the starship USS Enterprise as they explore new worlds throughout the galaxy during the decade before Star Trek: The Original Series.
Subspace Rhapsody will arrive on Paramount+ on August 3.
