Rajkummar Rao’s visually impaired Srikanth Bolla goes on to defy stereotypes by carving out a career as an entrepreneur in the official trailer of Tushar Hiranandani-helmed biopic Srikanth, dropped by production house T-Series Films on Tuesday.

The three-minute-17-second long trailer begins with a quote by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, “Dream is not that you see while sleeping; it is something that does not let you sleep.” It shows students from a school sharing their aspirations with Kalam, then the President of India. Among them, one student aims to become an IAS officer, while another dreams of becoming an astronaut. Srikanth boldly declares his ambition to become India's first visually impaired president, showcasing his determination to face challenges head-on rather than evade them.

Srikanth excels throughout his academic journey, scoring an impressive 98 per cent in his board exams. Jyotika plays Srikanth’s teacher, who supports him in the most challenging of circumstances. Despite his achievements, Srikanth faces limitations within the Indian education system, which does not allow visually impaired students to pursue scientific courses. Determined to fulfil his dream, Srikanth takes legal action against the system.

Ultimately, Srikanth receives scholarship offers from prestigious universities in the US. Alaya F portrays Srikanth’s admirer and romantic interest in the film. “I know all about your court case, cricket and MIT,” she says to him as they take a stroll through a park holding each other’s hand.

Srikanth confronts numerous obstacles on his way to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and overcomes all with his grittiness and determination. After he returns to India, he decides to create job opportunities for visually impaired people like himself. This leads him to found Bollant Industries, a company that produces areca-based products and provides employment to hundreds of individuals with disabilities.

Dr Kalam was the first visionary to support Srikanth’s entrepreneurial venture. The trailer also features Sharad Kelkar as an industrialist, who goes on to develop a warm bond with Srikanth. The trailer ends with Srikanth delivering a powerful speech that debunks all prevailing stereotypes about visually impaired people.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Srikanth will arrive in cinemas on May 10 on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
