Srijit Mukherji is going to give fans of Bengali cinema their very first ‘cop universe’ this Durga Puja. An industry source close to the Autograph director said that he is working on a ‘cop universe’ movie that will feature two iconic characters created by him — Probir Roy Chowdhury, played by Prosenjit Chatterjee, from Baishe Srabon (2011) and DCDD Bijoy Poddar, played by Anirban Bhattacharya, from Vinci Da (2019). Prosenjit and Anirban had previously featured together in Srijit’s 2019 historical drama Gumnaami.

“Srijit has been planning a ‘cop universe’ movie since the days of Dwitiyo Purush. Baishe Srabon and Vinci Da are two films very close to his heart. Probir Roy Chowdhury and DCDD Poddar are two immensely popular characters from these movies. The new story will focus on their journey and their backstory. Hopefully they will solve many more cases together in the future,” said the contact.

Jisshu Sengupta, who worked with Srijit in the 2018 film Ek Je Chhilo Raja, is likely to be a part of this multi-starrer movie as also Subhashree Ganguly, who is currently enjoying the success of her web series debut Indubala Bhaater Hotel.

Srijit’s crossover prequel film will release in theatres in October, alongside Dev-starrer Bagha Jatin, Koel Mallick-starrer Saranday Mitin and Shiboprosad Mukherjee-Nandita Roy’s Raktabeej, starring Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty.

Right from his first film Autograph (2010), Srijit has had a Durga Puja release. The tradition took a hit due to the pandemic, which will be resumed with the Baishe Srabon-Vinci Da crossover film.
