Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji is on cloud nine as his Hindi web series Shekhar Home has been ranked among IMDb’s Top 10 Indian Web Series of 2024. The JioCinema show earned the ninth position on IMDb’s list.
The Padatik director shared his thoughts on the milestone with The Telegraph Online, saying he was “extremely happy” that the show made it to IMDb’s list of Top Indian Web Series of 2024. “I’m so glad that it has done such great numbers and was also critically acclaimed,” he added.
“I have always been fascinated by Sherlock Holmes. Holmes and Hercule Poirot have been major parts of my growing up. So, I was delighted to make the first Indian adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, and that too with Kay Kay Menon, who I’ve always believed would make a great detective. Even Feluda,” Srijit further said.
An Indian adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, Shekhar Home dropped on JioCinema in August. Alongside Kay Kay Menon, the detective thriller starred Ranvir Shorey, Rasika Dugal, Kaushik Sen and Kirti Kulhari. Apart from Srijit, Rohan Sippy also directed two episodes of the five-episode series. Set in the 1990s, the story followed the adventures of a quirky detective in a small town named Lonpur in West Bengal.
The IMDb list, released on Wednesday, features Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar in the top spot. The magnum opus captivated viewers with its lavish sets, stunning costumes, and Bhansali’s signature storytelling. Released in May 2024, it quickly became the most-searched show of the year on Google too.
Amazon Prime Video’s Mirzapur Season 3 earned the second spot, while TVF’s Panchayat Season 3 continued its winning streak by claiming the third position.
Adapted from the South Korean drama Signal, ZEE5’s Gyaarah Gyaarah ranked fourth on IMDb’s list. With its gripping plot and ensemble cast — including Kritika Kamra, Dhairya Karwa and Raghav Juyal — the thriller seamlessly combined mystery and drama.
Despite its late release in November, Raj & DK’s action-packed spy thriller Citadel: Honey Bunny, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, made it to the fifth position on IMDb’s list. A prequel to Priyanka Chopra’s hit series Citadel, the show was praised for its intense action sequences and engaging storyline.
The rest of the top 10 includes Maamla Legal Hai (Netflix), Taaza Khabar (Disney+ Hotstar) and Murder In Mahim (JioCinema). The Great Indian Kapil Show (Netflix) was the only non-fiction series to feature on IMDb’s list at the tenth position.
