Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man Miles Morales navigates his way through a crew of the best Spider-people — an army of different incarnations of Spider-Man from different worlds — to prove what it takes to be a hero in the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer, dropped by Sony Pictures Entertainment on Tuesday.

The two-minute-25-second-long trailer begins with Miles’ encounter with The Spot (voiced by Jason Schwartzman). Gwen Stacy introduces him to a whole host of new Spider-people at a building. He then encounters a team of Spider-people tasked with protecting their respective universes. Miles soon finds himself pitted against the other Spider-people.

The clip also gives us a detailed look at Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, who challenges Miles’ sense of morality and ethics. It even takes a dig at Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Peter Parker (Tom Holland) from Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) saying, “Don't get me started on Doctor Strange and that little nerd from Earth-199999.” The filmmakers have also included the popular Spider-Man pointing meme in the trailer.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a highly-anticipated sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won the best-animated feature trophy at the 91st Academy Awards.

The sequel will see the return of its voice cast including Shameik Moore as Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Stacy/Spider-Gwen, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Luna Lauren Velez as Rio Morales and Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis.

Additionally, the film will see Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 and Daniel Kaluuya as Hobart “Hobie” Brown/Spider-Punk. Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham and Jason Schwartzman are also among the film’s voice ensemble.

The film is helmed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson and Powers, with Lord and Miller writing alongside Dave Callaham. It is jointly produced by Lord, Miller, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal and Christina Steinberg. Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, Aditya Sood, Rodney Rothman, Rebecca Karch and Brian Bendis serve as executive producers.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will arrive in theatres on June 2.
