Release dates of a slew of Sony Pictures movies, including Kraven the Hunter and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, have been shifted due to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes in Hollywood, reports US-based entertainment portal Variety.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s anticipated Marvel outing Kraven the Hunter has been pushed to August 30, 2024 from its planned release date of October 6 this year. Studio insiders attribute the date shift to Taylor-Johnson’s unavailability to engage in a worldwide press tour to promote the visceral action project amid the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the third film in Sony’s blockbuster animated franchise, was slated to open on March 29, 2024. However, the voice cast failed to complete the dialogue recording in time for the spring opening and a new date is expected in the coming weeks, says Variety having quoted a Sony source.
A planned sequel to Paul Rudd-led Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which grossed over USD 200 million at the worldwide box office in 2021, has also been pushed from its 2023 Christmas week release (December 20) to Easter weekend next year (March 29, 2024).
Karate Kid’s planned reboot has also been shifted from June 7, 2024 to December 13, 2024, while the release of Blumhouse project They Listen is now undated from its planned release on August 30, 2024.
However, the studio’s date shuffle isn’t all about the postponement of releases. Dakota Johnson fans are getting her slice of the Spider-Man universe — Madame Web, which will now release two days earlier on Valentine’s Day 2024 instead of the scheduled date on February 16.
On the other hand, Sony and Marvel’s Tom Hardy-led Venom 3 also received a revised release date of July 12, 2024, while Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-starrer Bad Boys 4 is set for a June 14 release next year.
