Sonam Kapoor, who gave birth to a baby boy on August 20, has shared her prenatal care routine in a post on social media.

This routine focused on a healthy diet, and regular yoga and pilates for a normal delivery with minimal medical intervention. Sonam’s daily morning routine included having a tablespoon of ghee followed by warm water and lemon, the actress has written.

Sharing details of her journey through pregnancy, the 37-year-old said that she used a “combination of body butter and stretch oil” during her pregnancy.

Talking of stretch marks, the actress said that she now has only a visible linea nigra (a dark vertical line that appears on the stomach during pregnancy).

“Pigmentation is something that is inevitable if you’re South Asian, especially during pregnancy. But the best way to minimise it (is to use) tons and tons of SPF and (avoid) direct sunlight,” the actress wrote on her Instagram story.

Giving her fans a peek into her prenatal care routine, Sonam said that she followed the ‘Gentle Birth Method’ developed by Dr Gowri Mohta for a normal delivery.

Sonam also tried oil pulling — a method where you swish around oil in your mouth to remove bacteria and promote oral hygiene. For this ancient Ayurvedic practice, she made a combination of sesame oil, coconut oil and olive oil to avoid sensitivity in gums and teeth.

“During pregnancy, you need folic acid, iron, calcium, vitamin D, choline, omega-3, fatty acids, B vitamins, and vitamin C. A good prenatal is essential and a good probiotic,” she wrote on Instagram.

Throughout her pregnancy journey, the actress took fibre supplements and had Ayurvedic Baladi churan made in almond milk with gur every evening to get rid of constipation.

Sonam had an active pregnancy. Yoga sessions and pilates helped her a lot during the process, she said. “It isn’t dangerous to move! Especially if you’ve been active before,” she wrote, breaking the myth around pregnant women always being asked to rest.

The actress promised more insights into her prenatal journey. Sonam and her husband Anand Ahuja welcomed their first child, Vayu, four years after their wedding in May 2018.

Recently, Sonam gave her fans and followers a glimpse into the nursery for her son. Here’s what it looks like.
