Actress Sobhita Dhulipala, who played Vanathi in Mani Ratnam’s two-part historical drama Ponniyin Selvan, on Monday celebrated the second anniversary of the historical drama’s first instalment by dropping a picture with her co-stars Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Jayam Ravi.

Ponniyin Selvan: 1 (PS: 1) came out in 2022, while the next instalment arrived in theatres in 2023.

Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s historical novel of the same name, Ponniyin Selvan is filled with drama, intrigue and power struggles. It narrates the riveting saga of the Chola dynasty and features a star-studded cast.

The film’s music was scored by A. R. Rahman, while Ravi Varman worked as the cinematographer. Recently, the movie was honoured at the 70th National Film Awards, winning awards in several categories, including Best Tamil Film, Best Cinematography and Best Background Score/Music Director.

At the recent South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2024, held in Dubai on September 14 and 15, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan received the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Critics) for her performance in Ponniyin Selvan: 2. Her co-star, Vikram, also won the Best Actor Award (Tamil) at the same event.

Both instalments of Ponniyin Selvan are currently streaming on Prime Video.
