Gary Oldman is returning to screen on April 1 with a spy thriller. Titled Slow Horses, the series, which will have an Apple TV+ premiere, follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 — Slough House.

The Academy Award-winning actor stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies who end up in Slough House due to their career ending mistakes. Joining him is a decorated ensemble cast including Kristin Scott Thomas (Darkest Hour), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Jack Lowden (Dunkirk), and Olivia Cooke (Sound of Metal).

The spy-drama series is based on a novel by Mick Herron. When the book was brought out by Constable in 2010, it didn’t do well. In 2015, John Murray published Slow Horses and Dead Lions in paperback. Once again, it didn’t fare well. But the publisher continued with reprinting the book and in 2016 it clicked. Herron often writes about broken spies and they are well-plotted. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, in England, and educated at Oxford, Herron’s books are packed with imagery and the Slough House series (the first book being Slow Horses; there are 11 titles in the series so far) will keep you entertained for a long time.
