Love is in the air and a sweet proposal can just seal the deal for lovebirds. Television sitcoms have long capitalised on this romantic tradition, giving us some memorable moments. On Valentine’s Day Eve, we look at six marriage proposals on TV shows that won our hearts.
Chandler and Monica (F.R.I.E.N.D.S.)
Rachel (Jennifer Anniston) and Ross (David Schwimmer) may have been the most-talked-about couple of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. but it was Monica (Courteney Cox) and Chandler (Matthew Perry) who took their relationship to the next level. They started off as friends and realised their true feelings for each other at Ross’s wedding.
After several failed attempts at proposing to Monica in the 24th episode of the sixth season, Chandler is about to give up. He is afraid Monica might dump him to reunite with her ex-flame Richard. Dejected and heartbroken, he enters their apartment to find Monica waiting for him. The entire room is decorated with candles. Monica is overcome with emotions and Chandler grabs the opportunity to ask her the question he has been dying to ask.

Sheldon and Amy (The Big Bang Theory)
Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) prided on being emotionless and began a relationship with Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) based on an ‘agreement’ but he sure was not expecting the direction it would take him. In the final episode of the tenth season, when Dr. Ramona Nowitzki (Riki Lindhome) catches Sheldon off guard by kissing him, the quirky physicist quietly takes her leave and flies out of California and shows up at Amy’s apartment at Princeton University. A shocked Amy opens the door to find Sheldon down on one knee with a ring in his hand.

Patrick and David (Schitt’s Creek)
David Rose (Dan Levy) and Patrick Brewer’s (Noah Reid) relationship is one of the major highlights of Schitt’s Creek. David had occasional flings and his sexuality was never the focus of the series, until Patrick walked into his life. They went from being business partners to lovers who set the bar high for couple goals. In Episode 13 of Season 5, Patrick takes a reluctant David along on a hike who decides to return after he has had enough. When David turns around, there’s Patrick down on one knee, asking to be married to him.

Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) are one of most-loved couples on television. The duo started off as competitors who never saw eye to eye on any issue but soon fell for each other. In Season 5 Episode 4, Jake pulled off a romantic move and proposed to Amy during the Halloween Heist.
The Halloween Heist is an annual tradition at the 99th precinct where officers compete to win a cumberband and the title of ‘Amazing Detective/Genius’. This particular year, Jake pulls Amy to the evidence room on the pretext of locating the prize, and pops the question, much to her surprise.

In the first episode of the fifth season of Modern Family, gay marriage is finally legalised in California.
