Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Yodha witnessed a slow start at the box office on Friday, with an opening day collection of Rs 4.25 crore, according to data-tracking agency Sacnilk.

The Karan Johar-backed patriotic action drama, however, beat Adah Sharma’s Bastar: The Naxal Story with a huge margin as the latter managed to earn only Rs 50 lakh on its opening day.

Despite its star-studded cast, which includes Disha Patani and Raashii Khanna alongside Malhotra, director duo Pushkar Ojha and Sagar Ambre’s Yodha witnessed a lukewarm total occupancy of 13.86 per cent on its opening day. In major metropolitan areas like Mumbai and Delhi-NCR, the occupancy stood at 15.5 per cent and 14.25 per cent.

However, Yodha faced tough competition from the horror-thriller Shaitaan starring Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan. Despite being in its second week, the Vikas Bahl-helmed supernatural thriller earned a commendable Rs 4.5 crore nett on its 8th day, bringing its total domestic collection to an impressive Rs 84.25 crore nett. The film's worldwide collection has crossed the Rs 115.25-crore mark.

Yodha features Sidharth Malhotra as Arun Katiyal, a commando in an elite task force named Yodha. After the task force is disbanded after a failed mission, Arun gets a shot at redemption when a plane is hijacked by terrorists. Shaitaan, on the other hand, revolves around Kabir (Ajay Devgn) who deals with a stranger (R. Madhavan) who has taken control of Kabir’s daughter using black magic.
