Actor Shreyas Talpade will essay the role of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming directorial, Emergency, which is being billed as the story of a watershed moment in the political history of India.
Apart from writing and directing the movie, Kangana will also play the role of another former prime minister, Indira Gandhi. Veteran actor Anupam Kher will be seen playing the role of the revolutionary leader JP Narayan.
The movie is named after the infamous 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when then prime minister Indira Gandhi had declared a state of emergency across the country.
Kangana said she was fortunate to have a versatile actor like Shreyas join the cast of Emergency.
“Shreyas will portray the role of young Vajpayee at the time of Mrs Gandhi’s first stint as the Prime Minister of India. The young leader was one of the heroes of the Emergency. I personally feel that Shreyas will play one of his most memorable roles on screen. We are lucky to have got a powerful performer like him to play this important role,” she said.
Shreyas was last seen making a guest appearance in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba and in Jayprad Desai's recently released biographical sports drama Kaun Pravin Tambe?
