The comedy drama Double XL, which is about two plus-sized women played by Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi, will have a special appearance from National team cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.
Speaking about his decision to star in the film, Shikhar said it was an instinctive one. “As an athlete playing for the nation, life is always very hectic. One of my favourite pastimes is to watch good entertaining films,” he added.
Elaborating on his decision to appear in Double XL, Shikhar said, “When this opportunity came to me and I heard the story, it made a deep impact on me. This is a lovely message for society. I hope a lot of young girls and boys will keep pursuing their dreams no matter what.”
Directed by Satramm Ramani, the movie challenges body weight stereotypes and promotes body positivity. As a couple of plus-sized women, Sonakshi and Huma go on escapades to achieve their dreams in the slice-of-life film.
Sonakshi as Saira Khanna faces challenges on the path to becoming a fashion designer due to her body type not fitting the fashion industry’s beauty standards. Huma as Rajshri Trivedi dreams of being a sports presenter but her weight comes in the way of her dream due to the stereotypes associated with how a sports presenter should look.
Their adventures span across New Delhi, Meerut and Mumbai as they continue to try and make their dreams come true.
Actors Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra will be joining Sonakshi and Huma as the two male protagonists. The film is presented by Gulshan Kumar, T-Series, Wakaoo Films and Mudassar Aziz.
Double XL is all set to hit the screens on November 4.
