Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal’s Mujib: The Making of a Nation will arrive in theatres on October 27, announced the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) on Sunday, sharing a trailer of the biopic on Bangladesh’s founding-father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The one-minute-48-second-long trailer begins with Mujib, played by Arifin Shuvoo, touching the ground of the newly independent Bangladesh for the first time after being released from a prison in Pakistan. The next scene cuts back to show Mujib’s fight for his mother tongue — Bangla — in the erstwhile East Pakistan where Urdu was introduced as the official language after the Partition.

The trailer gives a glimpse into Mujibur’s personal life, giving some screen space to the character of his daughter Sheikh Hasina, current prime minister of Bangladesh. It also depicts a heated confrontation between former Pakistan president Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mujib.

A collaboration between India's NFDC and the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), Mujib: The Making of a Nation also stars Chanchal Chowdhury, Riaz Ahmed, Fazlur Rahman Babu and Tauquir Ahmed.
