Five women — Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta, Vanshika Taparia, Arista Mehta and Saiyami Kher — pursue ever-elusive happiness amid chaos in daily life in the trailer of Tahira Kashyap Khurrana’s upcoming feature film Sharmajee Ki Beti.

Dropped by Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday, the trailer delves into the experiences and struggles of three middle-class women and two teenage girls, all sharing the surname Sharma.

While Sakshi plays a dedicated teacher struggling to find balance in her middle-class existence, Divya Dutta portrays the role of a woman whose dream of living in a big city soon transforms into a nightmare as she finds herself grappling with the fast-paced city life.

Vanshika Taparia and Arista Mehta play two school friends dealing with body image issues as they strive to be conventionally attractive. Almost a reprisal of her Ghoomer character, Saiyami Kher plays a determined cricketer who refuses to abandon her passion despite several challenges.

Each of the women finds her personal life strained for some reason or other. Sakshi’s self-loathing over her frizzy hair causes tension with her mother, while Kiran feels disconnected from her husband (Parvin Dabas). Tanvi's lover (Ravjeet Singh) forces her to choose between him and her career. The trailer also features Sharib Hashmi as Sakshi’s father.

Presented by Applause Entertainment and produced by Ellipsis Entertainment, Sharmajee Ki Beti is slated to premiere on Prime Video on June 28. It is the third film helmed by Tahira, who made her directorial debut in 2017 with the short film Toffee. Her next directorial project was Zindagi inShort (2020), an anthology of seven stories about seven different people and their ordinary lives.

Tahira is married to actor Ayushmann Khurrana and they have two children.
