Pop icon Shakira, decked up like a mermaid, screamed in fear as a rat appeared near her head out of nowhere during a shoot for the music video of her Copa Vacia song, shows a short clip the singer-songwriter shared with fans on social media.

The Latin pop icon’s encounter with the long-tailed rodent left her scared at the moment, but she took it lightly and joked about it while sharing the video on Instagram.

“Cosas que le pasan hasta a las sirenas,” she captioned the video. It translates to, “Things that happen even to mermaids.”

The video shows Shakira lying in a pile of trash dressed as a mermaid. The rat scampers near Shakira’s head, making her scream and get away from it. Her pink hair extensions are left behind.

The music video of Copa Vacía narrates the story of a mermaid who is removed from her ocean and kept in a tank. The video also features Colombian singer Manuel Turizo.

In a previous interview, the 46-year-old singer recalled how she struggled to get out of the tank during the shoot and the production staff had to eventually rescue her.

“The fish tank broke, the set began to flood and they had to take me out of there… I couldn’t go out because I had a mermaid tail, and I couldn’t climb out,” she said.

The Waka Waka singer said she was ultimately rescued by a crane. “Good thing it was just an anecdote, and I’m here to tell it.”
