Shahid Kapoor is set to headline Sachin Ravi’s upcoming epic action drama Ashwatthama - The Saga Continues, producer Jackky Bhagnani announced on social media on Tuesday.
“I have grown up listening to the fascinating tales of Mahabharata, so I'm really excited to announce our next venture: "Ashwatthama - The Saga Continues." I'm looking forward to collaborating with @shahidkapoor,” Jackky captioned his post on Instagram.
According to the official synopsis, myth and reality, past and present will collide as the immortal warrior, cursed by his past, embraces his destined role as a hero to restore harmony to the world on the brink of chaos.
Shahid will play a modern-day avatar of the Mahabharata character in the film. In Vyasa’s epic, Ashwatthama was cursed with immortality by Lord Krishna for attempting to kill Uttara's unborn child.
The film is jointly produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh under the banner of Pooja Entertainment.
Ashwatthama - The Saga Continues will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run, the streamer announced on March 19.
Although the film’s release date has not yet been announced, the makers revealed that it will be released in five languages — Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
Shahid, who made his OTT debut with Amazon Prime Video’s crime thriller series Farzi (2023), was last seen in Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah’s directorial debut Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, opposite Kriti Sanon.
