Despite showing signs of slowing down at the box office, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan handsomely beat the collections of new releases Vicky Kaushal-starrer The Great Indian Family and Shilpa Shetty Kundra-starrer Sukhee.
The Atlee-helmed actioner minted Rs 7 crore nett on Day 16, taking the film’s total collection to Rs 535.35 crore nett. The film’s collection at the beginning of its third week in cinemas was significantly higher than Vijay Krishna Acharya’s comedy drama The Great Indian Family, which could only earn Rs 1.4 crore nett on the opening day. Sonal Joshi’s slice-of-life film Sukhee — another new release — bombed at the box office with a meagre collection of Rs 0.30 crore nett.
Jawan, starring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in prominent roles, amassed a staggering Rs 391.33 crore nett within the span of eight days. The movie continued to maintain its strong momentum in the second week, accumulating an impressive sum of Rs 137.96 crore nett.
The actioner, which features an extended cameo appearance by Deepika Padukone, has also achieved immense global success. To date, the movie has grossed an approximate total of Rs 937 crore worldwide.
Jawan has already surpassed Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 to emerge as the second-highest grossing movie of 2023. It is on course to dethrone Shah Rukh’s Pathaan as the highest grosser of the year and is likely to achieve the feat in its third weekend.
