Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan has become the highest-grossing Hindi film in India, overtaking Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, just after completing its three-week run in theatres since the movie’s release on September 14.
Gadar 2’s moment of glory as the film to garner the highest-ever collection was short-lived as Jawan knocked the Anil Sharma directorial off its perch in less than 24 hours.
Jawan has so far raked in a staggering Rs 530 crore nett in the Hindi version alone (Rs 590 crore nett in all languages) at the Indian box office, while Gadar 2’s collection amounts to Rs 525 crore nett. Pathaan, another Shah Rukh-starrer which set the benchmark for the Bollywood box office earlier this year, earned Rs 524.50 crore nett as its lifetime collection and topped the revenue charts for Hindi films till September 27.
Globally, Jawan has amassed Rs 1043.21 crore gross and is likely to surpass Pathaan’s worldwide collection (Rs 1050 crore) today.
Jawan features an ensemble cast, including Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Girija Oak, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Lehar Khan, Aaliyah Qureshi, Ridhi Dogra, Sunil Grover, and Mukesh Chhabra. Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt made cameos in the film.
