As the sun set on Wednesday evening, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan set the all-time record for advance ticket sales by any Bollywood film with its opening-day worldwide figure of Rs 51 crore gross.
Earlier, the Bollywood star’s previous release Pathaan had held the record with Rs 31 crore from advance ticket sales.
Industry-tracking website Sacnilk reports that Jawan had sold a staggering 11 lakh tickets across India till Wednesday evening. On Wednesday alone, Jawan sold over two lakh tickets, raking in an impressive Rs 35.6 crore in advance sales across India, with an astounding Rs 32.7 crore contributed by the Hindi version of the film alone.
The excitement surrounding Jawan is not confined to Indian shores as foreign territories have also caught the fever. According to trade analysts, the Atlee-helmed actioner had amassed a remarkable USD 2 million (Rs 16 crore) in advance sales overseas by Wednesday evening.
Jawan also scored the highest number of advance bookings in national chains, beating Pathaan by a whisker. The film sold approximately 4,48,000 tickets at PVR-INOX and 1,09,000 tickets at Cinepolis, taking its total sales to over 5,57,000 tickets. Pathaan had sold 5,56,000 tickets in advance sales.
Jawan is also dominating the ticket booking website BookMyShow. In terms of likes on the day of release, Jawan occupies the second position with 7,07,000 likes on BookMyShow, while Pathaan still tops the chart with 7,20,000 likes.
Jawan marks Atlee's first venture into Hindi cinema after delivering four consecutive hits in Tamil. Furthermore, the film features Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles. The film’s music has been composed by renowned Tamil composer Anirudh Ravichander.
