Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan has emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 at the domestic box office, beating the actor’s last blockbuster Pathaan by raking in Rs 561 crore nett in 18 days since its release, trade reports highlighted on Monday.
Siddharth Anand-directed Pathaan, which marked Shah Rukh’s return as the lead character on the big screen in January after a four-year gap, collected Rs 543 crore nett in India.
Atlee’s Jawan is also inching towards the Rs 1000-crore milestone worldwide with a global collection of Rs 979 crore so far, the makers of the film have said. According to trade experts, the action drama is likely to cross the Rs 1000-crore mark globally today.
With Jawan’s success, Shah Rukh has become the only Indian actor to have consecutively delivered two blockbusters in a single year with a total gross worldwide collection exceeding Rs 2000 crore.
Jawan raked in Rs 7.61 crore nett on its third Friday, followed by Rs 12.25 crore nett on Saturday and a staggering Rs 13.50 crore nett on its third Sunday, further solidifying its box office dominance.
The film had a record-breaking first week at the box office, amassing a staggering Rs 391.33 crore nett within the span of eight days. The film has showcased remarkable consistency at the ticket counters in the second week, accumulating an impressive sum of Rs 137.02 crore nett.
The Atlee directorial boasts an ensemble cast that includes Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, Ridhi Dogra, Lehar Khan, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Priyamani, Sunil Grover and Eijaz Khan. Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt play cameos in the film.
