Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 blockbusters Jawan and Pathaan have topped IMDb’s list of most popular theatrically released films of the year, a report shared by the online entertainment database platform revealed on Thursday.
Both Jawan and Pathaan — directed by Atlee and Siddharth Anand, respectively — took the box office by storm this year, collecting over Rs 1,000 crore globally. Jawan occupied the first position on IMDb’s list of top 10 most popular theatrically released films, while Pathaan bagged the second place.
Among other theatrical releases this year, Karan Johar’s Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh-starrer Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani emerged as the third most popular film, while Vijay’s Leo occupied the fourth position. Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 bagged the fifth place on the IMDb list, prepared on the basis of page views by fans.
Only films that hit theatres between January 1 and November 6 were included in the survey, IMDb mentioned in its Instagram post.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 occupied the sixth and seventh ranks, respectively, while Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story stands at the eighth position. The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar bagged the ninth place, while Ajay Devgn’s action-thriller Bholaa, released in theatres on March 30, found a place at the tenth position.
All the top 10 films are now available to watch on streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and ZEE5.
IMDb also shared a list of top 10 most-popular Indian web series and OTT films on Thursday. Amazon Prime Video’s thriller series Farzi, starring Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi, tops the chart. It is followed by Guns and Gulaabs, The Night Manager, Kohrra and Asur 2, currently streaming on Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema, respectively.
Among the top 10 OTT movies, Lust Stories 2 — starring Tamannaah Bhatia, Vijay Varma, Kajol and Konkona Sen Sharma — ranked first. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s OTT debut film, Jaane Jaan, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, occupies the second position, followed by Mission Majnu and Bawaal. Yami Gautam-starrer Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga came fifth, while Bloody Daddy featuring Shahid Kapoor followed right after.
Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, Gaslight, Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery and Mrs Undercover also made it to the list.
