Manam told Bangladeshi media that Shafin had been struggling with heart issues and had previously undergone an angioplasty. He was also suffering from kidney ailments.

Born on February 14, 1961, Shafin was the son of renowned singer Feroza Begum and composer Kamal Dasgupta, both notable figures in Bangladesh's music scene.

Shafin’s musical journey began early, influenced by his family’s traditions. He learned classical music from his father and Nazrulgeeti from his mother. Shafin went to England for higher studies but fell in love with Western music, marking the beginning of Shafin’s involvement in band music.

In 1979, Shafin joined Miles and became the lead singer, songwriter, and bassist in the band, which ruled the Bengali band music scene in the 1980s and ’90s.

In 1991, Miles released its first Bengali album, Protisruti, which went on to become a massive success with songs like Chand Tara Surjo Nou Tumi, Jala Jala Jala Ei Ontore and Phiriye Dao becoming anthems for the youth.
